GROWTH: Scale-up summit to hear from top entrepreneurs

-

The head coach elect of the Scottish national rugby team is to join a major business growth summit in Perthshire next week.

Former British Lion and Scotland star Gregor Townsend, who will take over from Verne Cotter at Murrayfield in the summer, will give entrepreneurs the benefit of his experience in teambuilding with Glasgow Warriors and others during a keynote address at the Entrepreneurial Scotland Scale-Up Summit at Gleneagles Hotel on May 4.

Mr Townsend joins a strong speaker line-up for the event which also includes tech entrepreneur Jess Butcher, the co-founder of leading mobile visual browser Blippar.

Starting off as an idea in a pub, Blippar has enjoyed rapid growth and in 2015 was named among CNBC’s Global Disruptor 50 list of companies.

The business now has more than 200 staff in 10 offices worldwide, and Ms Butcher is viewed as a global expert in the technology field.

Other speakers at the event include the Ennismore chief executive Sharan Pasricha, who will be talking about the deal he made to buy Gleneagles Hotel from Diageo in 2015, and his vision to grow the business.

The summit will also include representation from Cazenove Capital after the wealth management group agreed a corporate partnership.

Bob Hair, head of Cazenove Capital’s Edinburgh Office, said: “Entrepreneurs are fast becoming key drivers of Scotland’s future prosperity.”

Sandy Kennedy, chief executive of Entrepreneurial Scotland, added: “We welcome Cazenove’s expertise, experience and resources to help to fulfil our vision by inspiring and developing Scotland’s entrepreneurial leaders and achieving our ambition of Scotland becoming the most entrepreneurial society in the world.”
