Managers, players and staff from St Johnstone’s past and present gathered for the funeral of the club’s beloved tea lady, Aggie Moffat.

Aggie, who died earlier this month at the age of 72, was a stalwart of the Saints for 27 years during which time she gained near fabled status.

She looked after numerous St Johnstone managers and hundreds of players behind the scenes at Muirton Park and then McDiarmid Park.

Among those to gather at Perth crematorium to pay their respects alongside family members was her friend and former St Johnstone manager Alex Totten.

The Saints boss was said to be her favourite throughout her long service with the club and he brought two of her favourite players to pay their respects.

Of all those who passed through the doors of Muirton Park and McDiarmid Park during her time with the Perth side, she was said to have a soft spot for Allan Moore and Kenny Ward.

Also there were a number of stalwart members of the St Johnstone family, including club patriarch Geoff Brown, former star and associate director Roddy Grant and former managing director Stewart Duff.

Former club captain Danny Griffin, community coach Atholl Anderson and park doorman Bruce McAlpine also said a fond farewell.

Aggie began laundering the Saints kit and cleaning the dressing rooms in 1980, while her husband Bob assisted making match day sandwiches.

She is best remembered for a 1991 disagreement with the then Rangers manager Graeme Souness whose conduct, damage to a tea urn and the state in which his team left the visitors’ dressing room all failed to impress.

Though it brought her national fame it was just one moment in a career of quiet dedicated service for which she sought no publicity.

Everyone at the club benefited from her help and guidance, with new players among those she helped feel at home.

They also knew the high standards she expected at the club to which she gave so much of her time,

She hung up her apron in 2007 at the age of 62.

St Johnstone players wore black armbands in her memory during their home clash with Aberdeen earlier this month.
