Cases brought before Forfar Sheriff Court

Colin Rushworth, 56, Christies Lane, Montrose, admitted causing a breach of the peace in the town’s Lower Hall Street on December 15 last year, shouting and swearing. He was fined £100.

David Elder, 22, Lintrathen, Kirriemuir, admitted assaulting Fraser Smith in Clerk Street, Brechin, on June 11 last year, punching him on the head to his injury.

The court heard Elder had been part of a large group that had attended the Angus Show before drinking in Hudson’s Bar and delivering the unprovoked punch on the street outside.

The victim suffered a broken nose and a laceration to its bridge, which required glue to set.

A previous conviction of assault was admitted and sentence was deferred to May 25.

A 16-year-old former resident of the Rossie Young People’s Trust unit admitted assaulting a residentia­l care worker to his injury on December 20 last year in Deveron House, butting his body, repeatedly punching him in the face, and biting him. Sentence was deferred on the teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons and now resides in another secure unit, to May 25 for the outcome of a Children’s Panel.

Adam Grant, 25, Montrose Street, Brechin, admitted causing a statutory breach of the peace in the town’s High Street, Commerce Street and Montrose Street on March 27, repeatedly shouting, swearing and making abusive remarks while on bail.

Sheriff Murray imposed a sixmonth community payback order with 70 hours of unpaid work.

Alexander Steele, 45, Restenneth Drive, Forfar, admitted possessing heroin valued at £100 at his home on May 31 last year and was fined £200 in his absence.

Katarzyna Bielec, 36, Bridge Street, Montrose, admitted possessing methadone valued at £20 and cannabis valued at £10 in The Mall, Montrose on May 15 last year.

Sentence was deferred for six months for good behaviour.
