Family of arrested Briton to be deported to UK

-

The wife and child of a British man arrested in Turkey after crossing the border from Syria are to be deported to the UK, according to Turkish officials.

Stefan Aristidou and an American man, Kary Paul Kleman, arrived at the Oncupinar border crossing in Kilis province on April 20 and were arrested four days later after handing themselves over to authorities.

Turkey’s official Anadolu news agency said the men were detained and later arrested on suspicion that they are members of the extremist Islamic State group.

A UK Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are in contact with the Turkish authorities following the detention of a British man on the Turkey/Syria border.”

Aristidou, 23, from Enfield, north London, had been missing for two years.
