Dance tour date is a special brew
Youngsters will get the chance to show off their new-found dancing and music skills at a special show this week.
Created by award-winning disabled choreographer Marc Brew, Brewband is a music and dance performance company which brings together Scottish rock artists Graeme Smillie, Jill O’Sullivan and Peter Kelly with dancers/musicians Martyn Garside, Marta Masiero and Alice Sheppard.
The production fuses rock music with Marc’s choreography.
Members of the Dundeebased Scottish School of Contemporary Dance will join them on Friday for the penultimate outing on their Scottish spring tour at the city’s Gardyne Theatre.
During their tour Brewband aimed to give young people the chance to develop skills and make themselves healthier through dance and music.
The project offered a chance for local students to take part in the show and they completed a three-day workshop headed up by Brewband’s Emma-Jane McHenry.
She said: “We worked alongside professional musicians where the dancers helped to create the rhythms and music as well as their own piece of choreography, working on various themes including contact, identity and bullying.”
Marc added: “We will particularly focus on giving disenfranchised young people, especially those with physical disabilities.”
