Carnoustie leave too much to do

-

Carnoustie made it a nervy last few minutes for Bonnyrigg at Laing Park with two late goals but, ultimately, after finding themselves three down, had left themselves with too much to do.

Ruaridh Donaldson put the visitors in front on 22 minutes and Adam Nelson poked home their second after 38 minutes.

Bonnyrigg appeared to have sealed a quarter-final tie against Kelty Hearts when Wayne McIntosh headed home a third. But, with the visitors wilting from their recent heavy schedule, Panmure stuck to their task and substitute Ryan Roche pulled one back.

Scott Gray then deflected a great Danny Millar strike home, but it proved too little too late.

There was, however, Tayside success in the quarter-final tie at Whitburn where North End produced a shock by eliminating their Premier League hosts after a penalty shoot-out, despite finishing the tie with nine men.

The Dokens made a great start with Dayle Robertson getting a deserved opener and adding a second. But with Craig Scrimgeour and Pat Martin both sent-off, the home side stormed back to send the tie to penalties. The Dokens prevailed 4-3.

The draw for the semis handed North End a home tie against either Tranent or Broxburn Athletic

The other semi is more complicated as Musselburgh Athletic or Jeanfield Swifts will be at home to either Bonnyrigg or Kelty Hearts.

In the Conservatory Convertors Fife & Lothian Cup quarter-final, Super League leaders Kelty Hearts crashed out at Tranent for only their fourth competitive defeat of the season. Kelty’s Brian Ritchie levelled only for their Premier League hosts to grab a winner.
