Rodgers named top boss as Sinclair picks up players’ prize

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has won the PFA Scotland manager of the year award.

Rodgers beat Aberdeen’s Derek McInnes, Partick Thistle boss Alan Archibald and Jim Duffy of Morton to the award last night after leading Celtic through the domestic season unbeaten so far with three Ladbrokes Premiershi­p games and the William Hill Scottish Cup final to go.

Celtic’s Moussa Dembele also collected one of the earlier awards of the night for goal of the year, following the champions’ 24-pass move against St Johnstone.

Celtic winger Scott Sinclair was crowned PFA Scotland’s Premiershi­p player of the year.

The former Swansea, Manchester City and Aston Villa player has netted 25 goals so far in his first season in Scotland.

Sinclair edged out team-mates Dembele and Stuart Armstrong along with Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes.

Celtic full-back Kieran Tierney was voted the best young player of the year. Dembele was also on the shortlist for the young player prize, as were team-mate Patrick Roberts and Hibernian striker Jason Cummings.

Scotland and Hibs midfielder John McGinn was voted top player in the Championsh­ip after helping the Easter Road side to the title.

Livingston forward Liam Buchanan won the League One award and Elgin’s Shane Sutherland claimed the League Two plaudits.

The Scotland women’s national team collected a special merit award after qualifying for this summer’s European Championsh­ip finals.
