McCann magic as Dark Blues boss shows bravery in his team selection

- neil robertson

More McCann magic – that’s what everyone connected with Dundee will be hoping for as the Dark Blues look to finally secure their Premiership safety.

The new interim boss’s honeymoon period continued on Saturday at Kilmarnock when his team secured a vital 1-0 win to make it two victories in a row since he took over following last week’s 3-2 triumph on the road at Motherwell.

Amazingly, the Killie game was also the first time Dundee had kept a clean sheet this year.

That was in no small part due to keeper Scott Bain who made two outstanding saves near the end of the game to deny Killie a draw.

The goalie looks like a man transformed since McCann came in but he is not alone with belief once again coursing through the veins of the players.

The manager deserves enormous credit for restoring confidence in players who looked mentally shattered towards the end of Paul Hartley’s reign in charge.

McCann also showed his bravery in his team selection on Saturday. It would have been understandable if he had simply stuck by the players who had beaten Motherwell but instead he shook things up by bringing in Faissal El Bakhtaoui and Cammy Kerr.

Once again afterwards, McCann deflected questions about whether he would stay at the club beyond this season. However, if Dundee beat Ross County on Saturday, then the clamour for his appointment to be made a permanent one will become deafening.
