Additional funds needed to repair covers at open air pool

-

High winds at the end of last year damaged the two thermal covers for Stonehaven heated open air pool.

With the opening for this year less than three weeks away, the Friends of the Pool have been told the bad news that only one of the covers can be repaired.

It has led to them organising a race night at Stonehaven Bowling Club to ensure they have sufficient funds to get the cover repaired in time.

The cover is essential to retain heat and also keep debris out of the pool.

Chairman of the Friends, Pete Hill said: “Our volunteer workers have been busy since the pool closed last September, repairing, renewing, scrubbing and painting to make sure everything looks its best for the 2017 season.

“However, we got a nasty shock when we discovered that only one of the thermal pool covers could be repaired.

“Both covers were badly damaged at the end of last season by high winds but it’s only in recent weeks we have found out that one needs to be replaced although the other can be repaired.

“Suddenly, we need to find additional funds to ensure these covers are up to their task of retaining heat and also keeping debris out of the pool during the hours it is closed.”

The race night will take place this Saturday in Stonehaven Bowling Club at 7.30pm.

Tickets, priced £5, include a stovie supper and are on sale from members of the Friends Committee including secretary Wendy Rudd who can be called on 01569 765547.

The pool will open again this year on May 27. Drawings by primary school pupils will be on display for the opening.
