A total of 41 high growth Scottish companies have been recognised in a UK business powerlist.

London Stock Exchange Group’s ‘1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain’ report is designed to identify the fastest growing and most dynamic SME companies operating across Britain.

Companies included on the 2017 list have demonstrated average annual revenue of growth of 70% over the past year.

However, the Scottish cohort are faring even better with annualised revenue growth averaging 91%.

The report’s authors said Scotland was famed for exports of oil, textiles, whisky and salmon but it said the economy was actually “far more diverse than it’s often given credit for”.

Among the Scottish inclusions are companies operating in the leisure, food and drink, engineering, financial services, construction, real estate and employment services sectors.

Locally, Fife-based veterinary services group Albavet was included as is Speratus Group, the business vehicle of entrepreneur Garreth Wood which is behind the Boozy Cow chain of not-for-profit pubs which recently opened in Dundee.

Xavier Rolet, CEO, London Stock Exchange Group, said: “Four years on, LSEG’s 1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain report continues to highlight the dynamic, entrepreneurial and ambitious businesses across the country that are boosting UK productivity, driving economic growth and creating jobs.

“The strength and diversity of these companies is readily apparent with a broad mix of UK regions and sectors represented. These firms are the heart of an ‘anti-fragile’ economy: more robust; more flexible and less prone to boom and bust.

“We must ensure we continue doing all we can to support high growth potential businesses like these.”

Business Secretary Greg Clark said high growth SMEs were vital to the UK’s long-term economic health.
