One Scottish punter is celebrating after Arbroath’s dramatic title victory helped him scoop a £60,000 win.

The unnamed gambler claimed a five-figure haul after his pre-season accumulator proved successful.

The middle-aged winner, who has asked to remain anonymous, placed a £10 seven-team bet at the start of the football season.

As well as the Red Lichties’ title triumph, Celtic, Hibs, Livingston, Sheffield United, Portsmouth and Newcastle all claimed their domestic titles.

By predicting all seven results the punter’s lucky line helped him claim £60,734.38.

With Arbroath having done the needful on Saturday, Jack Grealish’s last-minute goal for Aston Villa against Brighton, crowning Newcastle champions in the process, sealed the ambitious gambler’s fate.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Every year thousands of punters place cross-league accumulators which normally come agonisingly close but hit the crossbar in extra time.

Dick Campbell’s Arbroath side won the SPFL League Two title after a dramatic final day of the season last weekend.

Despite Angus rivals Forfar leading the pack for most of the season, Arbroath were crowned champions after drawing with Stirling Albion.

Around 1,500 Arbroath fans travelled to Stirling to see their heroes gain promotion to League One.

Neighbours Forfar went down 4-2 to Annan at Station Park.

The match marked John Christison’s final game as Arbroath chairman.

For players and fans alike, this is a nerve-shredding time. It’s the end of the football season, and for plenty of local teams there is still much to play for. For one club, however, it is already time to celebrate. Arbroath were crowned League Two champions following a tense weekend, with a 1-1 draw at Stirling Albion enough to secure them the title.

If Lichties fans thought it was a stressful affair, spare a thought for the punter who had £60,000 riding on the result...
