Bervie skatepark plans lodged after years in the pipeline
A Mearns skatepark is a step closer to reality after plans were lodged following years in the pipeline.
The park would be built on land at William Eddie Park, Inverbervie, which Aberdeenshire Council has agreed to lease to the Bervie Skatepark Committee.
It has been designed by Concreate Skateparks.
One letter of support states: “I am supporting this positive addition to our community, this will be a great addition for the youth of our community and I believe will cut down boredom and minor vandalism through boredom.
“Bervie has grown incredibly in the last 10 years I have been here and I believe the facilities need upgraded.
“I have three children who will use this facility and benefit from it – big thumbs up from me.”
But concerns have been raised it will “attract older kids” who will not use the facility.
In a letter of objection one resident wrote: “I am all for providing additional facilities for the kids in the area, however, I feel this is in the wrong location.
“The proposed location is right next to a very busy main road where traffic seldom slows down when accessing the village.
“The younger kids would have to cross this road to access the skatepark.”
It adds: “It is also quite a secluded area and is bound to attract the older kids and teenagers, some of whom may not intend to use the skate park.”
A design statement by Concreate Skateparks states: “We have seen many methods of skatepark construction over the years, timber shutter, steel frame, modular concrete and brick shuttering.”
