A 31-year-old man appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court yesterday charged with the murder of grandfather Gary McMillan.

Arran Fender appeared before Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown accused of killing Mr McMillan in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

He made no plea and no declaration and was remanded in custody.

Fender stands accused that on the morning of Tuesday May 16 on the junction between Lawton Road and Lawton Terrace he did assault Gary McMillan and did repeatedly strike him on the body with a knife or similar instrument and did murder him.

The case was continued for further examination and Fender is expected to make a second appearance at some point next week.

Meanwhile, tributes continued to be paid to “all round good guy” Mr McMillan.

The godmother of his daughter, Brogan, took to social media to pay her respects.

In a Facebook post, she said: “Can’t believe I’m writing this.

“Gary McMillan, my pal from when we were very young, husband of my best pal Gillian Macleish, close pal of my kids’ dad and my beautiful goddaughter Brogan Mcmillan & Naomi Spiers’ loving dad.

“Doesn’t seem long ago I stood as your and Gill’s chief bridesmaid. Over the years we have had many memories, I could fill a book.

“Never ever a dull moment with Gary. You are the most loyal man I have ever met.

“So hard seeing how devastated and broken all of your family are and how loved and respected you are. You will never know.

“My heart is breaking for all you have left behind. Taken in such a cruel way.

“I can’t believe when we last spoke a few days ago that it was the last time I’d hear your voice. Gone but never forgotten.”

Floral tributes continued to be left on a grassy area close to where Mr McMillan’s body was found.
