Pippa to marry financier in society wedding of the year

Prince Harry, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to be among guests

- Tony Jones

The society wedding of the year between Pippa Middleton and financier James Matthews takes place this weekend.

After making an unforgettable appearance in a figure-hugging dress at the royal wedding of big sister Kate, Pippa will take centre stage tomorrow at the picturesque 12th Century church of St Mark’s in the Berkshire village of Englefield.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be among the guests as their children Prince George and Princess Charlotte play starring roles as a page boy and bridesmaid.

But Kate has already confessed to a Buckingham Palace garden party guest that she is a little apprehensive about the big day. After chatting to the duchess on Tuesday, Andrew Bates said: “She said that they were all really looking forward to her sister’s wedding at the weekend, but she was a bit worried about how her children might behave.

“She said she was hopeful that they would be good, but you never know at that age.”

Prince Harry will be sitting among the congregation, but royal-watchers will be waiting to see if he brings his American actress girlfriend Meghan Markle.

Hedge fund boss Mr Matthews got down on bended knee during a trip to the Lake District last summer to propose to Miss Middleton. At the time, the couple had been dating for less than a year but had moved in together and a thrilled Pippa was said to have been totally surprised by the proposal.

James’ brother Spencer Matthews – a reality TV star who was a regular in the programme Made In Chelsea – is likely to be best man.

With the Middleton family home just a few miles away in the village of Bucklebury, the happy couple and their guests will not have far to travel for the reception, which is reportedly being staged in the grounds of the property.
