Tim Henman pulls out of Perthshire legends event

-

Tim Henman has been forced to withdraw from a charity legends tournament in Scotland next month – by an elbow injury.

The former British number one was due to play in the Brodies Invitational tennis tournament at Gleneagles Hotel’s arena on June 16-17.

He sustained the elbow injury while playing tennis in China recently, and doctors have told him to rest the arm completely.

Henman, 42, will be replaced by former rival Greg Rusedski at the event, which will raise money for Maggie’s cancer care centres and Cancer Research UK.

Other legends taking part will include Swedes Mats Wilander and Thomas Enqvist, Belgian Xavier Malisse and Scottish former doubles ace Colin Fleming.

The ATP Champions Tour event will also showcase young Scottish prospects and family fun sessions with Judy Murray.

Henman said he would still travel to Perthshire to take part in coaching sessions and “join in the fun with the fans”.

He added: “I’m sorry that I won’t be able to compete in the tournament but I’m determined not to miss out on the Scottish tennis event of the summer.

“I’ll be cheering on the other legends and the Scottish juniors, meeting tennis fans and taking part in coaching sessions. It’s too much fun to miss.”

Judy Murray, who will host a family fun tennis session at the event as part of her Tennis on the Road programme, said: “It’s great to have top class tennis in Scotland.

“It is a chance to see some of the world’s legends in action, to showcase Scotland’s best young prospects and to give many parents and children the chance to try tennis through my fun family event.”
