Kelty one victory away from Super League title

Fife side need to defeat Bonnyrigg to retain crown

Kelty Hearts have one hand on the Super League trophy after a 2-0 victory at Linlithgow Rose on Saturday.

Two second-half goals from Neil McCabe and Scott Dalziel saw Tom Courts’ side home and they know that a victory over Bonnyrigg Rose in their final game will see them crowned champions.

Jeanfield Swifts knew that their fate was in their own hands and that a win at home to Musselburgh would not only secure their own Super League status but also relegate the visitors, and Ross Gunnion’s side got their reward from a hard-working performance.

Robbie Holden, who this week signed a new contract as a player-coach at the club, put the Perth men in front on 70 minutes before Daniel Kelly doubled the advantage on 90 minutes.

There was a nervous closing minute after Musselburgh pulled a goal back but there was no time for an equaliser and Jeanfield remain in the top flight, joining Dundonald and Lochee Utd who they were promoted with last season.

Bonnyrigg Rose have not given up hope of catching Kelty Hearts. Knowing that a win for their rivals at Linlithgow Rose would mean that they needed to pull back the goal difference, Robbie Horn’s men thrashed Broughty Athletic 6-0 at Whitton Park.

Ewan Moyes put the visitors in front on the half hour and Kieran McGachie made it 2-0 just before the break. Jordan Orru scored a third for Rose on 53 minutes but really the second half belonged to Sean Jamieson who scored on 55, 56 and 64 minutes for a hat-trick and to take his side to an emphatic victory.

Both Carnoustie and Bo’ness United made changes to their line-ups but it was the visitors that reacted better, running out 3-1 winners although as is common in football the result hinged on a controversial decision.

The visitors took an early lead on three minutes when Roddy MacLennan completed a mazy run with a shot to the bottom corner and then Calum Smith curled a great effort into Jamie Robbie’s top corner four minutes later.

Sam Simpson pulled a goal back on 33 minutes when he found the far corner of the net as the rain lashed down.

Simpson then appeared to be brought down by a clumsy challenge by the United keeper but the referee pointed for a goal kick.

Smith made sure of the points in the second half after a mix-up in defence when he curled a sweet lob over Robbie.

Two goals from Paul Blackwood in the first half at Keirs Park saw Lochee United take all three points against Hill of Beath.

Afterwards it was announced that former Raith Rovers, Brechin and Forfar midfielder Kevin Fotheringham will be the new Haws boss.

He said: “I am looking forward to it but its not going to be easy as we need to rebuild. However, the future’s bright.”
