Dundee promoters Make That A Take present two excellent hardcore punk gigs this week, starting tonight with PMX.

Scotland’s kings of melodic hardcore/skate punk return from their May European tour to tear the basement apart with their razor-sharp tech-punk.

PMX are working on their new full-length record to follow up the Dark Days EP released in late 2015.

They’re supported by Get It Together, young Arbroath melodic hardcore punks Hopes Up High and Us Versus Them from Kirkcaldy.

Then on Monday Welsh apocalypti­c ragers Grand Collapse visit Dundee for the first time as part of their UK and Ireland tour.

A spokesman for MTAT said: “We’ve been trying to get these troops to Dundee for a while now and are delighted to finally be able to do so.”

Support comes from Aberdeen’s Boak, Bed of Wasps from Dundee and Drive By Killer from Perth.

The Fort Hotel in Broughty Ferry kicks off the town’s Big Weekend tonight with the Celtic Session at 5.30pm.

That’s followed by Paul and Dave, Song For You, Son and finally a DJ at 11.30pm.

Among the highlights tomorrow, which starts with a barbecue at noon, are The Graham Brown Band, Emerald Sunday, Colour Coded and Jack Rabbit Slims.

On Sunday you can hear Itchy Feet from 2pm, alongside Nic Nevet, Hennessy Brothers, The Funkin’ Idiots and Kabin.

Cherry Bombz are also at Stags Head in Carnoustie on Sunday at 5pm.

Barry and Nicky Lawson play Number 57’s weekly acoustic session at 9pm tonight. Ringer are in the teatime slot tomorrow from 5.30pm followed at 9.30pm by Bedrock.

Sunday sees The Junkyard Dogs in their usual residency at 7pm.

This evening’s Blackscrof­t Barbecue kicks off at 4pm at the Reading Rooms with tunes provided by Max and Ronan and friends.

Entry is free and that’s followed at 10pm by Stamina’s “big ol’ night of disco”.

Entry is £3.50 before 11.30pm, £5 after or it’s £3 all night for students.

The barbecue gets fired up again tomorrow at 4pm before Book Club residents night with Marc JD and Is Kill.

There’s an all-day fundraiser on Sunday featuring Chris Mann, Mike McDonald, Alan Dobson, Billy Morris, Chris Boyle and Old Hool who will be providing the tunes for 12 hours from 2pm.

The Junkyard Dogs are at Clarks on Lindsay Street tonight.

There’s passion-fuelled Motown and soul covers tomorrow from The Mess Arounds. Both start around 9.30pm with free entry before midnight.

Local duo True Romance are throwing a fundraiser gig on Sunday following the theft of all their equipment.

The band is also launching their new single and will be joined by VFlamba.

Tickets are £5 in advance or it’s £6 on the door.

Pre-Production presents a very special evening of eclectic, contempora­ry folk on Wednesday as one of the UK’s most respected songwriter­s Charlie Dore teams up with multiinstr­umentalist Julian Littman to share her new album Dark Matter.

The new collection promises a fast moving show as the pair swap guitars, mandolin, harmonium, ukulele, piano and autoharp as well as introducin­g some new and different flavours to shine a very personal light on her mysterious subject matter.

They’ll also dip into favourites from the past six albums as well as sharing original acoustic versions of hits Charlie has written for others, including George Harrison and Jimmy Nail.

Tomorrow it’s The Shrinks at the same time.

Gavin McGinty hosts Songwriter­s Sunday with help from some guest performers from 8pm.

Dave Webster’s open mic is on Wednesday at 8.30pm.

The annual Bandathon tickets are now on sale priced £5 with all proceeds going to Tayside Mountain Rescue.

The event will take place on Sunday 25 June with 12 hours of music from the best local talent.
