Fundraisin­g for Scotland’s 10th busiest lifeboat tops £30,000

Arbroath Lifeboat Guild has raised £33,913 towards its RNLI operation.

Operations manager Alex Smith informed the group’s AGM of the type and number of “shouts” the crew were involved in during the past year.

Its 37 launches put Arbroath 10th in the Scottish league table, and it has had 20 call-outs this year so far.

Lt Col Ian Ballantyne spoke of the station’s bright future, particular­ly the arrival of the new Shannon class lifeboat due by 2020.

Both thanked the guild for their fundraisin­g events and all the money collected, as without their support the lifeboat group cannot carry out their work.

Secretary Jenny McKay proposed the minute from last year’s AGM and it was adopted.

President Mo Morrison reported on the fundraisin­g activities which had taken place since she had taken up office.

Manning the souvenir gazebo at the Festival for Heroes and the Arbourfest, serving cream teas at the Sea Fest, teas at doors open at the shed, the quiz night, hot drinks after the New Year Dook, a Sup our Soup lunch, and Mayday’s open day.

The pop-up shop, a new venture for the guild, has proven so popular that it will return next month.

President Morrison thanked every one of the committee for their continued support, efforts and hard work.

Members enjoyed four original songs about Arbroath performed by Slipway, a local band comprising of Ian Lamb, Alan Mowat and Tony Simpson.

As previously reported in The Courier, Slipway have just released a CD which is available from various outlets and the RNLI shop.
