Motorists look set to face disruption today when the next stage of roadworks begin on the M90.

Traffic is likely to be busy with it being a bank holiday and those travelling could face delays with lane closures being put in place northbound, between junctions six (Kinross) and eight (Arlary), following the ‘morning peak’.

This will be followed by a southbound lane closure following the evening peak.

The resurfacing, staged over three phases, will cost £670,000. It is the 10th separate set of roadworks on the M90 Perth to Inverkeithing in the past three years.

A spokeswoman for Bear Scotland, which is responsible for the trunk road network, said: “The installation of traffic management will be phased between junctions six and eight on Monday to limit the impact on bank holiday traffic.

“A northbound lane closure will be put in place following the morning peak, with a southbound lane closure to be placed following the evening peak.

“The traffic management will ensure the safety of the workforce and road users whilst improvement works to the central reservations and crossovers are progressed.

“Once the crossover improvements have been completed the teams will set up a contraflow system from June 5, in preparation for the resurfacing on the southbound section.”

She continued: “The project will involve upgrading sections of the southbound concrete carriageway between junctions six and eight.

“Upgrades are planned for sections of the central reservation on the M90, followed by resurfacing improvements for two sections of the southbound carriageway, as well as the southbound slip roads at junction six.

“The improvements will help upgrade the road surface over 700m of the southbound M90, creating a smoother, safer and more resilient stretch of the M90 for motorists.”
