Advantage West End in play-off

-

Forfar West End are in the box seat in the Super/Premier League play-off after a 3-1 home win over Newtongrange Star.

All the goals came in the first half. Lee Currie put Star in front with a free-kick but West End equalised straight away through Graeme Hart.

The big striker then put West End in front before Matty Ramsay made it 3-1 ahead of the second leg at New Victoria Park next week.

The Super League title is back in Bonnyrigg’s hands after they defeated Carnoustie Panmure 5-0 at New Dundas Park, though the scoreline fails to tell the full story.

An under-strength Carnoustie side had repelled everything thrown at them and, despite losing Liam Scott on the half-hour with a shoulder injury, looked like they would get to half time level.

However Kieran McGachie popped up to put Rose in front in first-half stoppage time and the hosts went further in front on 49 minutes after being awarded a penalty, Sean Jamieson converting.

Eight minutes later it was 3-0 after Robbie Horn’s men were awarded a second penalty, and again Jamieson converted the kick. Kerr Young headed in at the back post for the fourth and in stoppage time McGachie scored his second.

Three goals in 15 minutes midway through the second half ensured Linlithgow Rose would start the second Mark Bradley era with all three points from their visit to Lochee United.

Colin Leiper put the visitors in front on the hour before Kevin Kelbie made it 2-0 on 68 minutes. Kelbie added his second with 15 minutes to go. Paddy Deane netted a consolation on 83 minutes.

Violet ended the Premier League season with two defeats from five games – both against Sauchie – but it was all too late as the Pansies went down to the North League. They played out a 2-2 draw with Whitburn at Glenesk Park, a result which not only saves the Lothian side but condemns St Andrews United.

Gary Brass and Jordan Bain put the visitors 2-0 in front at the break but Violet levelled within 10 minutes of the restart with goals from Lee Milton and David O’Neill.
