Professor’s international honour
A Dundee University academic has been given a prestigious international prize in recognition of his contribution to healthcare.
Ronald Harden, Emeritus Professor of Medical Education, will receive a Gusi Peace Prize in Manila in the Philippines in November.
The prize is awarded annually by the Gusi Peace Prize Foundation, who chose Professor Harden for his “untiring efforts working for people’s amelioration through contributions in the field of medical education”.
Prof Harden is recognised as one of the leading international figures in medical education.
He was formerly teaching dean at Dundee as well as director of the university’s Centre for Medical Education. The development of clinical competence assessment, adopted as a gold standard internationally, was among the many achievements of a career that also saw him receive an OBE for his contribution to medical education.
“These are exciting times in medical education and the award of the Gusi Peace Prize is an honour I treasure,” said Prof Harden.
“I find it rewarding and stimulating that I have the chance to work with individuals around the world to promote collaboration and change in the training of health care professionals.”
The Gusi Peace Prize recognises individuals and organisations who have contributed to global peace and progress through a wide variety of fields.
