More than £4,500 has been raised in memory of Dundee boxer “Iron” Mike Towell.

The money was donated as part of a fundraising drive organised by the fighter’s partner Chloe Ross.

Mike’s family want to provide brain safety scanners to be introduced within Scottish boxing.

Chloe, and Mike’s mum Tracey, intend to purchase two scanners for clubs in Dundee and Stirling, two places where the fighter learned his trade.

More than £13,000 has already been raised to go towards the purchase of one scanner in Mike’s name.

The funds raised at Sunday’s event, which attracted 200 people to the Downfield pub in Dundee, will go toward the purchase of a second scanner.

On social media, Chloe said: “Actually shocked to be writing this, but providing everyone hands in their auction money we raised a massive £4,630.09 last night. I am really sure we are the tiniest bit away from scanner number two.

“Thank you all so much for donating, you are all so generous and I’m sure all this stress will all be worth it when we save someone’s life.”

Tracey said: “I can only say again and again a great big thanks to you all, you really are amazing people.”

Dad-of-one Mike, 25, died in September after collapsing with bleeding on the brain during a bout against Welshman Dale Evans in Glasgow.

He had complained of headaches but was advised it was a migraine.
