London investors told of waterfront benefits
enterprise: Opportunities in Dundee shared during event at Scotland House
Dundee’s director of city development, Mike Galloway, has shared details of the city’s waterfront project with potential investors in London.
The networking event, held in Scotland House, was organised as a collaboration between Scottish Development International (SDI), the international arm of Scotland’s enterprise agencies, and the Scottish Cities Alliance.
During the conference, Mr Galloway explained the benefits of investing in Dundee and gave insight into the progress which has been made with the £1 billion project.
According to the city development chief, all relevant infrastructure work has now been completed.
Mr Galloway added he feels both Dundee Airport and the Port of Dundee will be crucial to the city’s future economic success.
Guests also learned “almost half of the £1bn investment will be focused on Dundee’s central waterfront”.
Following the conference, Mr Galloway said: “This has been an ideal platform from which to showcase the great investment potential at Dundee waterfront directly to London-based investors.”
Also present at the event were representatives from Glasgow’s Clyde Gateway project and Edinburgh’s International Business Gateway.
The “business breakfast” aimed to take a “Team Scotland” approach to identify and engage with potential investors.
Finance Secretary Derek Mackay, who launched the event, said: “Building on our previous successes, we have attracted more investment projects than ever before, with 2016 results up 2.5% on the record achievements of 2015, and more research and development projects than any other part of the UK including London.
“Scotland is open for investment opportunities; our Infrastructure Investment Plan supports projects valued at more than £6.4bn including creating a digital infrastructure for 100% superfast broadband access for all of Scotland and a £1.8bn Schools for the Future Building Programme.
“We are investing in Scotland’s cities and regions through City Deals, including a £1bn investment for the Glasgow City Region – the second largest City Deal in the UK.
“We enjoy resources few nations can match, including world-class universities, one of the most highlyeducated workforces in Europe, competitive tax policies, a long standing reputation for innovation and a strong international brand.
“These assets continue to attract investors to Scotland in what is an increasingly competitive global field.”
