A shot at glory beckons for Links Park trust in community awards

-

An Angus charity has been shortlisted for a cash prize made up from the sale of disposable bags.

Scotmid Co-operative’s Community Connect initiative was launched in April to pay out up to £15,000 for good causes in the region encompassing Tayside, Aberdeen and Inverness.

Three groups have been identified as potential winners at an Angus meeting in October – Links Park Community Trust (LPCT) of Montrose, Dundee’s Eighteen and Under, and Rothes’ Moray School Bank.

They will be considered for the financial awards of £15,000, £10,000 and £5,000.

Based at the home of Montrose Football Club, Links Park Community Trust has won national recognition for developing and delivering programmes focusing on community sport, education and training.

Funding from the Community Connect initiative will be put towards a footballthemed health and wellbeing programme designed to help people recovering from addiction to build skills which will aid their progression.

LPCT chief executive Peter Davidson said: “Scotmid’s Community Connect is a fantastic initiative and we’re really excited about being short-listed. The Links Park Community Trust’s aim is to make a difference to improving the lives of people in the local area and, through football, we believe we can reach as many people as possible.

“Funding from Community Connect will enable us to introduce a new programme to help local people, who are recovering from addiction problems.”
