Opportunity to learn CPR for free

-

Angus Council is offering a free drop-in session for anyone who wants to learn simple but vital lifesaving techniques.

On June 15, from 5pm to 8pm, members of the public are invited to learn CPR at Brechin Community Campus.

This free drop-in session is for anyone who wants to learn lifesaving techniques.

The council is holding the day as part of their support for the Save a Life for Scotland campaign.

The campaign aims to equip half a million people living in Scotland to be able to carry out the procedure by 2020.

Qualified first aid trainers from Angus Council, ANGUSalive, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), St Andrews First Aid, the British Red Cross and the Scottish Ambulance Service will be on hand to maintain a training ratio of around 1:4 or 1:5 to ensure the best possible skills are taught.

Every year more than 3,500 people in Scotland are treated by the Scottish Ambulance Service after having a cardiac arrest.

Save a Life for Scotland launched in October 2015 and is a collaboration of emergency services. It aims to train 500,000 more people in Scotland by 2020 which it hopes will double the survival rate meaning potentially 300 more lives saved each year.

Effective CPR can be taught in less than 20 minutes. For more information, visit the website at www. savealife .scot.
