RSABI issues rallying call ahead of Great Glen Challenge

RSABI is urging members of the rural community to show their support for this year’s Great Glen Challenge by sponsoring the rural businesses taking part.

The rural charity, which provides financial assistance to those who have relied on the land, holds the one-day challenge every year to try to raise funds.

This year’s challenge, which takes place on Friday August 25, will see 25 teams from rural businesses either run, cycle or kayak through the Great Glen from Invermoriston to Neptune’s Staircase at Banavie, near Fort William.

The challenge, which is now in its sixth year, is organised with support from law firm Ledingham Chalmers.

RSABI said funds raised would help fund its work across the country – it said continued volatility and uncertainty for farmers had resulted in a surge in demand for its services, with an average cost to the charity of £500,000 a year.

The company’s development manager, Paul Tinson, said: “It’s fantastic to witness such strong continuing support for RSABI Great Glen Challenge and we are delighted to welcome a selection of new teams to the fold as we launch the fundraising phase this summer.

“With a full complement of teams already signed up, fundraising now begins in earnest.”

He continued: “Please give generously and extend a huge welcome to new teams such as SAC Consulting Solutions, Pagan Osborne and Soil Essentials to name but a few.”

Mr Tinson also reminded farmers and crofters where to turn to if they need help.

The charity’s helpline, 0300 111 4166, is open every day of the year from 7am to 11pm.

Run with help from the Farm Community Network, the helpline provides a single point of inquiry handling everything from questions about the benefits system and sources of help on farming issues, to delivering support on critical personal matters, including money troubles and emotional distress.
