Good sport at Monikie – if you brave weather

Weather conditions have impacted the number of people fishing at

MONIKIE, but those who have made it out have had decent sport.

Peter Kilminster had a nice fish of 4lb off the Island Pond, while Bob McClelland had a lovely 5lb blue trout off the North Pond.

The flies and lines have varied but some of the more successful ones have been snatchers, olive damsels and goldhead hare’s lug. FRANDY FISHERY is

fishing really well.

Billy Thomson and party from Auchterard­er kept 11 fish weighing 20lb 8oz; George Keith and Tom Lansdown (Dunfermlin­e) had four for 8lb and returned 11; Jim Barbour and Jock Paisley (Cupar) kept six weighing 13lb; James McEwan (Glenrothes), five, 12lb.

Angling clubs were out in force with Dundee AC keeping 31 for 63lb 15oz, while Dunfermlin­e Artisan kept 27 weighing 55lb 10oz.

Top taking flies and lures last week included black hopper, daddy longlegs, Kate Maclaren, sedge muddlers, claret bumble and sedgehog.

At ORCHILL LOCH, Falcon FFC had a good morning taking 37 fish for 113lb 8oz with John Scullion having the heaviest basket with four for 17lb 4oz, mainly caught on dries.

Peter Low (Auchterard­er) had two for 7lb on a shuttlecoc­k and Brian Fyfe (Lochgelly) kept two for 6lb on buzzers; Robert Pew (Burntislan­d) had two, 5lb on daddies.

The recent Scottish Club Championsh­ips heat at LAKE OF

MENTEITH saw 13 teams (39 anglers) catch 154 trout with 86 released. Each returned fish counted as 2lb.

Top place went to Neilston Fly Fishers with 26 trout for 53lb 1.7oz. Caley Liners took second with 22 trout for 48lb 9oz with John Simpson also top rod on the night. Third place went to the Perth RASC team with 18 trout for 39lb 10oz.

These teams go forward to the semi-final on August 19.

The top five rods progressin­g to the Champion of Champions final were John Simpson, Andy Kemp, Brian MacKenzie, Andy Smith and Jordan Queen. James Litster qualified but cannot make the final.

Best trout was caught by Alex Grant of Select Fly Fishers, weighing in at 4lb 14.7oz.

In the weekly boat league on a grey and calm evening, 30 anglers netted 92 fish. Top bag was Brian MacKenzie who netted 10.

The second of the Scottish National semifinals was held at Carron and, with 33 competitor­s, the top 11 qualified for the final.

There were two father and son combinatio­ns with Brian Kennedy and son Andrew of Caley Liners FF qualifying.

Cupar AC’s Gary Wilkinson went through but dad Charlie missed out.

The 33 anglers caught 87 fish, including rainbows of 6lb 5oz, 5lb 10oz, 4lb 3oz, 3lb 15oz and 3lb 12oz but these were capped at 2lb.

Top rod and winner of a Ridgeline Igloo top from sponsors Ridgeline UK was Gateside FC’s Bradley Chalmers, who caught 10 trout for 9lb 10.7oz on a size 14 black hopper fished dry.
