Schoolgirl ‘critical’ after Kennoway collision

A schoolgirl is in a “critical” condition in hospital after being knocked down by a car in Kennoway.

The 12-year-old is continuing to receive treatment for injuries to her head, chest and legs following the incident in the town’s Sandy Brae on Thursday evening.

The youngster is now in the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh, having been transferred from Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital in the aftermath of the incident.

While the circumstances surrounding Thursday’s incident are not yet known, residents of Sandy Brae yesterday said that the road outside their homes was carrying huge volumes of traffic on a daily basis.

Householder Ann Grieve said: “I don’t know what happened on Thursday. I just saw the blue lights and that’s what made me look out of the window.

“I’ve lived here for 17 years and it is busy with traffic, especially at rush hour time.”

Another woman added: “It’s such a busy road. I always worried that it was inevitable before someone got hurt here. “I just hope the girl is OK.” Frances Murray, who recently purchased a property just yards from the crash site, added: “When I’ve been reversing on to the road the cars have come flying down the road. “It can be very dangerous.” Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, with road policing officer Sergeant Ewan Pierce having issued an appeal for witnesses.
