New Scottish informatio­n commission­er selected

An RAF legal officer is to be named as the new Scottish Informatio­n Commission­er.

The Scottish Parliament will next week be invited to nominate Daren Fitzhenry to the Queen for appointmen­t to the role.

The commission­er is responsibl­e for promoting and enforcing the right of journalist­s and the public to ask for informatio­n held by Scottish public authoritie­s.

The St Andrews-based job has a fixed term of six years and a salary of £73,000.

Mr Fitzhenry is currently a senior officer in the RAF legal branch and previously worked as a solicitor.
