Round-up of cases dealt with at Forfar Sheriff Court

-

A man who breached a community order imposed for a string of offences has been placed on a three-month tagging order.

Connor Angus will also be the subject of a three-year nonharassment order imposed by Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown at Forfar aimed at protecting his former partner who he attacked and subjected to repeated unwanted texts and social media messages.

Angus, 21, of Ernest Street, Arbroath, had previously been put on a community payback order (CPO), which included unpaid work and participation in the Fergus programme for domestic offenders.

Solicitor Brian Bell said his client recognised the failure to comply with the requirements of the CPO was a serious matter and that the court would be entitled to send him straight to prison.

Also heard at Forfar: Thomas Docherty, 41, of Beacon Road, Montrose had sentence deferred for the preparation of a criminal justice social work report after admitting possessing heroin in Paton’s Lane in the town on May 8.

The court heard that Docherty’s last conviction was a seven-year prison sentence for the supply of drugs, which was described by his solicitor Billy Rennie as “a significantly different category of offence”.

Sheriff Martin-Brown continued the case until July 27.

Sean Cocker, 30, of Paton’s Lane, Montrose had sentence deferred until July 27 after pleading guilty by letter to three charges of shoplifting on the same day. He admitted that on April 7 he stole five watches from New Look, as well as a watch, a quantity of T-shirts and a hooded top from the Factory Shop, both on Montrose High Street.
