Taxi injures 10 at airport
A crash that injured 10 people near Boston’s Logan International Airport does not appear to be an intentional act, according to police.
There were initially fears it may have been a terror attack, but police were quick to scotch those rumours.
A Massachusetts State Police official said the crash is believed to be a case of “operator error” in which the driver stepped on the accelerator pedal instead of the brake.
The 56-year-old taxi driver’s vehicle struck the pedestrians in a taxiqueuing area yesterday afternoon near the East Boston airport.
State police spokesman David Procopio said 10 people were injured, some seriously.
The injured were believed to be mainly other taxi drivers waiting to pick up passengers from the airport.
Video of the scene showed a white taxi with front end damage at rest against a building and near some picnic tables.
“We discovered that one of the cab drivers in the pool had jumped the kerb and struck several other cab drivers who were sitting in a sitting area, a rest area, awaiting their next fares,” a Massachusetts state police spokesman said.
Mr Procopio said based on the preliminary investigation, “there is no information that suggests the crash was intentional”.
The taxi driver was interviewed by police but had not been arrested.
