Brown ‘delighted’ to be handed Blue Brazil role

Billy Brown admits he is delighted to be appointed manager of Cowdenbeath after conceding that he recently feared there would be no route back into the professional game.

The experienced former Hearts, Hibs and Kilmarnock assistant manager has stepped up from his number two role at Central Park after Gary Locke departed to take up a full-time ambassador post at Tynecastle.

After being axed from the Hearts backroom team alongside manager Locke when Ann Budge completed her takeover in summer 2014, Brown had been out of work for nearly three years before joining the Blue Brazil in March.

The 66-year-old admits he is thrilled to be back involved in the frontline of football management at the League Two side.

He said: “I only went there in the first place to help Gary and I wanted to get my teeth into something.

“Things went well and when Gary got the opportunity to go back to Hearts on a full-time capacity, he couldn’t turn it down and I’m delighted to take over.

“I never envisaged that I would be back as manager when I decided to help Gary out, I never gave it a thought really.

“But I enjoyed being back in the dugout, I missed that really because I was out for nearly three seasons.

“During that time out I didn’t think I would get back into football.

“I missed it and the older you get the more experienced you become, you see things differently.

“I’m looking forward to it. It’s a challenge.”
