Beer and berries to the fore for summer festival highlight

-

Beer and berries will take centre stage at Arbroath’s Hospitalfield House on Saturday.

The free event takes place in the courtyard between noon and 5pm and is likely to be one of the highlights of the summer festival.

Visitors will have an opportunity to meet a selection of producers and suppliers of the best beer and berries in Scotland, found across Angus and Tayside.

Beer and Berries has been planned to coincide with Hospitalfield’s Open Garden Day, organised with Scotland’s Gardens, which will offer entry into the walled gardens between 2 and 5pm.

A donation of £4 per adult is requested for entry.

Those behind the event are keen for everyone to get involved in celebrating their local produce and are inviting people to bring along a jar of homemade jam to be entered into a competition judged by chef Adam Newth of Tayberry Restaurant.

The suppliers in attendance will also be telling their food stories and there will be a wealth of produce to buy.

Gardeners of all abilities are also invited to bring questions to quiz the Gardener’s Question Time panel at 3pm.

Scott Byrne, general manager at Hospitalfield, said: “Beer and Berries is a great opportunity to celebrate the fantastically rich food and drink culture we are so fortunate to have across Angus and Tayside.

“We are delighted that Adam Newth, chef proprietor of Tayberry Restaurant and local food hero, will be present to open the event and to judge the best homemade jam.”

The final part of the festival is a music event on July 15.
