The future is bright at Dundee for goalkeeper Scott Bain if he wants it to be.

That was the message from Dark Blues boss Neil McCann on the back of an impressive display by the goalkeeper in the friendly victory over St Mirren.

Bain, whose current contract expires next summer, pulled off a string of excellent saves against the Buddies as the Dens men won 3-1 at Paisley on Tuesday night.

The performance was a timely reminder of what Bain offers the team and how crucial he could be if he stays for the new season.

As recently as the spring, then boss Paul Hartley indicated that Dundee’s number one would be leaving sometime soon.

Hartley said: “Scott indicated if he could get a move, he’d want to move.

“I’ve not got objections to people who want go and try to better themselves, that’s just life. That happens in football – players come and go all the time.

“We spoke about if I went to the owners and spoke about an extension would he be interested? He said no.”

However, McCann insisted Bain is happy where he is and may just be hanging around.

Asked if he had been chatting to Bain about a new deal, McCann said: “Scott is really happy here and he will say that himself if you speak to him.

“He is looking absolutely fantastic in training. In terms of his contract, I haven’t really discussed that with him yet.

“I have told him I am aware of his contract situation and I have told him I would love to keep him. But it has been quite relaxed.

“There is so much going on at the minute. The one thing I wanted to get from him was to know if he is happy here and I was met with a resounding ‘Yes.’

“I was delighted with that and that means there is no rush to do anything. I would like keep him and he knows that.”
