Angus “limbs in the bin” killer Steven Jackson has launched his bid for freedom.

A procedural hearing took place before a single judge at the High Court of Appeal in Edinburgh.

A date was set for the full hearing, which will take place before three senior judges on September 19.

Jackson is to appeal his conviction and life sentence for the brutal murder of 37-year-old Montrose mother Kim MacKenzie.

A range of options will be available to the appeal judges, from rejecting the appeal on both grounds to ordering a retrial in the case.

Jackson, 41, battered Ms MacKenzie with a hammer before stabbing her dozens of times at a flat in Montrose in October 2015.

Thieves rode off with two modified motorbikes after breaking in to a house in Carnoustie.

One of the motorbikes is a Honda CBR600F, mainly white and red.

The other is a 2013 Fireblade, modified to look like a Fireblade SP. It is red, white and blue with gold wheels and was described as one-off

The bikes were later spotted in the Fintry and Whitfield areas of Dundee.

It is understood police pursued a balaclava-clad person on one of the bikes but were unable to keep up as it dodged through traffic.

Owners Lynda Morton and Kenny Malcolm have urged anyone who has seen the bikes or has information that may help trace them to contact police.

Police Scotland confirmed it was investigating a break-in in Carlogie Road, which occurred between 3pm and 4pm yesterday.

Cameras and equipment worth several thousand pounds and laptops were also taken.
