Music lovers were delighted by singer Susan Boyle’s bill-topping performance against the backdrop of Glamis Castle on Saturday night.

Around 3,000 people attended the event, which also featured Lee Mead, Christina Bianco and Jai McDowall.

Producer Peter Ferguson said: “Susan went down an absolute storm. She was back by popular demand after her 2015 performance.

“She appeared at the end of act one and the crowd just went mad for her.”

Also appearing on stage was 12-year-old Inchture Primary pupil Erin Paterson, who fought off competition from across the country to sing Tomorrow from the hit show Annie.

“Erin received a standing ovation for her rendition of Annie. The audience loved her, there was huge support for her,” added Peter.

“Another local guy we had was Matthew Tomlinson from Montrose, who opened up the whole evening and who’s got a beautiful voice.”

Other performers included Soul Nation and the Ayoub Sisters.

Early bird tickets are already on sale for next year’s prom, which will be held on August 25 in the hope of catching better weather.

Peter added: “People are clamouring to get back, which is great.

“We don’t have a theme or performers booked for next year yet but we’re delighted to see the enthusiasm for people to come back next year.”

Missing from this year’s event was a fireworks finale.

The organisers said they made a “difficult call” as they did not think they were appropriate in light of the terrorism incidents in Manchester and London.

A statement said: “We know a firework finale was missed. “Sorry – they’ll be back in 2018. “To have fireworks, permissions are required. The information must be in our event safety plan.

“Concluding this coincided with the terrible events in Manchester and London.

“At that time we didn’t feel fireworks would be appropriate and made the decision to cancel them this year. “Apologies for any disappointment. “It was a difficult call, but next year we intend for them to return with a bang.”
