Runs in the family

-

The Gyles family have not one author, but two. Last week I mentioned the book written by Mike Gyles and now I have heard that his brother Alan is also a printed author.

Brought up in Arbroath, Alan attended Arbroath High School and worked at Keith & Blackmans for a short period before joining Metal Box in Arbroath. He travelled around the UK with Metal Box and later worked in financial services for 20 years before retiring this year on the same day his book was issued.

“As a teenager I played football, being attatched to Dundee but only played for the reserves, before playing for Broughty Athletic and Carnoustie Panmure,” says Alan.

Alan’s book, The Finger of Suspicion, will take you on an emotional ride with some unexpected twists and turns. Set at the outset in the 1990s a good family man goes missing. With his mind addled with alcohol he drifts into a new life, forgetting his previous one.

Slowly but surely his memory returns, but should he go back to the life he knew? Meanwhile his family misses him and his wife never gives up hope over the years he is away.

Finally, after 10 years he is found and gladly returns home, but will life be the same?

Alan says: “I wrote the book mainly because during my long walks I see life in front of me and all sorts of stories come to mind.”

Married with two sons, Alan’s job at home was to entertain them with stories at bedtime and also to relate his dreams in the morning. Now he is putting them down on paper.

The Finger of Suspicion is published by Austin Macauley. Please visit www. austinmacauley.com for more information.
