Sweet-toothed thieves sought after cake heist

White Church raiders took treats but snubbed money and alcohol

Mystery thieves who broke into a Perthshire community centre made off with a celebratory cake.

The individuals are believed to have ignored money and alcohol during their night-time raid on the White Church in Comrie.

It was apparently filled with tempting and lucrative items following a party but they zeroed in on a fridge, removing a cake and also grabbing bags of sweets.

Police Scotland initially reported that a single slice had been cut during the break-in but further inquiries have revealed the entire treat was removed.

The thieves then left the community centre, otherwise empty handed, with the cake robbery now being probed by bemused police officers.

Police Scotland is also investigating a break-in at Comrie Primary School, which is thought to have been carried out by the same individuals.

Items were also removed from the school, though Tayside Division was unable to provide details of what was taken.

It is not thought damage was caused at either location.

Staff at the Comrie Community Centre declined to comment on the robbery, as committee members had still to be informed.

They did, however, confirm the theft of an entire cake and a quantity of sweets.

Police officers described the break-ins as “bizarre”.

They are said to have taken place sometime between 1.30am and 6.30am on Sunday.

Anyone with information relating to the two crimes or who may know who is responsible is asked to call Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
