Tributes to young ‘true team player’
A teenager killed in a horrific road crash has been described as “one in a million” by friends.
Billy Haggart died in hospital after a one-car crash on the A923 Coupar Angus to Dundee road in the early hours of Saturday.
The 18-year-old was pulled from the wreckage by paramedics and taken to hospital by ambulance. He died later that morning.
Four other people in the car, including the driver, escaped with minor injuries.
Billy’s family at Coupar Angus, described as well respected members of the local farming community, were being comforted by friends and neighbours last night.
Floral tributes have been left at the scene of the tragedy, near Tullybaccart.
A tweet from the Stanley Socca Under 19s team stated: “Devastating news this morning. Couldn’t have met a nicer guy, he was one in a million, a true team player.”
Billy, a keen Rangers fan, was raised in the Coupar Angus area and attended Burrelton Primary and Blairgowrie High School.
Friends flooded social media with messages of condolence. Some gathered near the scene of the accident to pay their respects and comfort one another.
One classmate wrote on Facebook: “You never failed to make everyone around you laugh. Such a horrible thing to happen.”
Another said: “Such a sin. Another gorgeous young lad taken before his time.”
Retired farmer Gordon Pattullo, who lives near the accident site, said: “It’s such a waste. The family are well known members of the farming community.
“They were just your decent ordinary quiet country folk.”
The crash happened at around 2.30am.
Two fire service crews were called to the scene.
The road was closed for nearly seven hours while collision investigators tried to establish what happened.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed a probe was under way and has asked for anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.
