Two members of staff have been suspended from a Dundee sheltered housing complex over allegations residents’ money has been stolen, it has been claimed.

A council worker claimed “vulnerable” residents of Craigie Street Sheltered Housing in Stobswell had been targeted by a senior member of staff.

The whistleblower said one person had been suspended for stealing “thousands of pounds” and another had been suspended because they knew of the alleged thefts but had not reported it to council bosses.

The complex is run by Dundee City Council.

It is understood the local authority has now launched a probe into whether there is any truth to the allegations, which involve a man and a woman.

The council worker said: “Two members of staff have been suspended because one has been stealing residents’ money.

“When it got reported one of them was asked to resign but I don’t think that is right at all.

“The other has been suspended because they knew about it but didn’t tell anyone. These are very vulnerable tenants who won’t have a clue what has been going on.”

The worker added: “I heard about it at the weekend but it is all staff are talking about.”

It is understood the theft has not yet been reported to Police Scotland’s Tayside Division by the local authority.

Dundee City Council declined to comment on the allegations after being asked if a probe was under way or if the matter was being reported to the police.

A spokesman said: “We do not comment on individual personnel matters.”

Craigie Street Sheltered Housing Complex comprises 33 flats and all of its residents are over 60 years of age. It provides sheltered and supported accommodation for older people.
