MSP saddles up for the Cairn

North East MSP Liam Kerr is preparing for a 54-mile cycle in aid of a charity which supports wounded military veterans.

Mr Kerr has taken up the Cairn o’ Mount Cycle Challenge, which will see him cycle from Aboyne to Arbroath over the 1,493 foot-high mountain pass.

The Scottish Conservative politician will be joining other riders to show support for Horseback UK, a Scottish charity which uses horse riding to help wounded soldiers overcome injury.

The organisation has helped more than 500 veterans over the past seven years.

Mr Kerr, who is seeking sponsorship in advance of Saturday’s event, said: “Horseback UK is a fantastic charity and the Cairn o’ Mount challenge is a great event.

“There is no doubt this is going to be a really tough challenge.

“Anyone who has driven over the Cairn o’ Mount will know just how difficult a climb it will be by bike.

“But the challenge is nothing compared to that which faces many wounded veterans who have to rebuild their lives following injury.”
