Whitehead’s first-half goal sees Bluebells take derby honours

-

Lochee United edged out Broughty Athletic in the Super League derby at Thomson Park last night.

Both sides headed into the all-Dundee clash after unbeaten starts to the season but it was Aaron Whitehead who was the Bluebells’ match-winner with a 19th-minute counter.

Barry Sibanda was the hero as Dundonald Bluebell edged out nine-man Hill of Beath 2-1 at Moorside Park.

He scored a last-minute winner after Haws’ Rikki Dair had earlier cancelled out John Martin’s opener for the Bluebell.

Jeanfield led 2-0 at Kennoway Star Hearts only for it all to go pear-shaped as they were held to a 2-2 draw and finished the match with nine men.

Chris Anton and a Rhys Davies penalty seemed to have put them in the driving seat before Chris Scott was red-carded.

Day reduced the leeway and with Lee Deans also seeing red, Partridge scored an injury-time leveller.

Carnoustie came out on top in the Angus derby at Strathmore Park, defeating Forfar West End 2-0.

Marc Walker and Sam Simpson, with a penalty, were on target for the Gowfers.

In the Premier League, two late goals earned Kirrie Thistle three points at home to Tayport.

Lee Cameron put the hosts ahead with six minutes left and a minute from time Stewart Russell got a second.

Meanwhile, St Andrew made it three straight wins following a 3-2 victory at Glenrothes.

The Glens actually held the interval advantage through a Jamie Leslie strike, but Saints struck back through Michael Fleming, Ben Anthony and Dylan Honeyman. Jamie Gay got a late goal for the hosts.

In heavy conditions at Thornton, Downfield ploughed their way to a first win of the season.

The Spiders were two ahead thanks to goals from Dale Davidson and Phil Hagan before Keatings pulled one back for Hibs.

Davidson’s second of the night restored the visitors’ two-goal advantage and although Forbes reduced the deficit the Spiders held on.
