Man assaulted former partner and her mum after night in pub

-

An Angus man admitted assaulting his former partner and her mother outside a pub.

Andrew Brechin from Forfar appeared at the town’s sheriff court yesterday and admitted three assaults on Julie McIntosh, her mother Carol, and Donna Cameron in Queen Street and East High Street on April 28 this year.

The court heard the 44-yearold followed his former partner out of the pub, initially out of concern after a previous incident, before the 9pm assault.

Depute fiscal Michael Swinney said: “Witness McIntosh was outside the Old Masons Arms and the accused had exited the premises to Queen Street.

“The accused confronted witness McIntosh, pushed witness Cameron on the chest, and grabbed witness McIntosh by the face, by the hair and struck her once on the head.

“Police arrived and witness Carol McIntosh was informed by them there had been an assault on her daughter.

“She made her way to the premises and confronted the accused.

“Police saw the accused taking hold of witness Carol McIntosh by the shoulders, causing her to fall to the ground.”

Defence agent Ian Flynn said: “Mr Brechin said they were all asked to leave the pub. He is told there was an incident and foolishly he went round the corner to try and calm her down.

“Her mother has then turned up and then he accepts he shouldn’t have laid hands on her.”

Sheriff Gregor Murray said: “I accept you were well intentioned at the start and you were confronted by Mrs McIntosh in a way you shouldn’t have been.”

Brechin, of Lowson Terrace, was fined £300.
