Impressive debut for Liverpool’s Robertson

-

New LIVERPOOL signing Andrew Robertson is hopeful he can provide the long-term solution at left-back after impressing on his debut.

The £8 million arrival from Hull was one of the more effective players as Jurgen Klopp’s side laboured to a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Anfield to register their first Premier League win of the season.

Robertson replaced Alberto Moreno in the starting line-up and was Liverpool’s most dangerous player in the first half, with a number of threatening crosses.

Robertson had been held back by Klopp as he missed the first part of pre-season after joining in late July, and admits it has been a frustrating wait.

He had a hand in the goal, exchanging passes with Sadio Mane before Palace’s Luka Milivojevic made a hash of controlling an interception and the Senegal international pounced on the loose ball. MANCHESTER UNITED

thumped Swansea at the Liberty Stadium for their second straight 4-0 Premier League win of the new season.

Eric Bailly’s first goal for the Red Devils handed Jose Mourinho’s men a 1-0 lead at halftime, before three strikes in four minutes at the death wrapped up another commanding win.

United opened their campaign with a 4-0 home drubbing of West Ham, and repeated the scoreline in Wales, with Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial all on target in a late flurry.

Meanwhile, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is keen to prove he is fighting fit following his knee injury.

The 35-year-old damaged knee ligaments in April and required surgery. He has been recovering and doing his rehabilitation at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground, despite the club

not offering him a second year on his contract at the end of last season.

Yesterday he posted a video on Twitter challenging his followers to guess which knee he had damaged as he showed off his taekwondo moves on a punch bag.

The footage suggests the striker is ahead of schedule in his recovery as reports begin to emerge that a deal on a new contract at Old Trafford could be close.

ARSENAL boasted 77% possession and mustered 18 attempts on goal but still lost 1-0 at Stoke.

Paris St-Germain loan signing Jese Rodriguez claimed the winner with a clinical finish after Saido Berahino’s through ball.

Alexandre Lacazette had the ball in the back of the net midway through the second half, only for the strike to be ruled out for offside.

Stoke lost Xherdan Shaqiri early on to a hamstring injury but were able to cling on for a victory that will doubtless frustrate Arsenal, who had rallied to a tense 4-3 opening-night win over Leicester.
