A peek behind closed doors

-

Fascinating buildings across Angus will be welcoming the public on September 2 and 3 when they take part in this year’s Doors Open Days, which are held at the start of Angus Heritage Week.

Doors Open Days are held throughout Scotland and provide free access to buildings which normally charge an entrance fee, are not usually open to the public or are private dwelling places.

Coordinated nationally by the Scottish Civic Trust, Doors Open Days offers a rare chance to peek inside and find out what goes on behind closed doors.

This year, participating buildings include Arbroath Lifeboat Station, Carmyllie Church, the Mortuary Chapel in Arbroath’s Western Cemetery, Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club near Glamis, Forfar’s Balmashanner Monument and the Camera Obscura in Kirriemuir.

Several private homes are also taking part in this year’s event, including Kinnaird Castle near Brechin and an award-winning eco-house near Montrose.

“Old and new, there are so many eye-catching buildings in Angus,” said Councillor Ron Sturrock, Angus Council’s economic development spokesperson.

“Doors Open Days are always a highlight of the Angus Heritage Week programme, encouraging people from near and far to explore Angus.”
