A possible sighting has been reported of a Tayside man who has been missing for more than a week.

It has now emerged that a man matching Anthony Kelbie’s description was spotted sitting on a bench at Forfar Loch on Monday and Tuesday.

A woman thought she saw Mr Kelbie with a backpack and the sighting is now being probed by investigating officers.

Mr Kelbie, 48, from Dundee, has not been seen since he left his mother’s house in Brechin around 8pm on August 19 to go to the shop to buy a lighter.

He disappeared just hours after being discharged from Ninewells Hospital following a bang to the head and his family are fearing the worst.

Police returned to the Nursery Park area of Brechin on Saturday night to speak to the public in an attempt to jog someone’s memory.

The UK Civil Air Patrol Scotland (UKCaps) has also offered to make its airborne assets available in the search for Mr Kelbie who suffers from seizures.

Police are investigating the possible sighting of a Tayside man who vanished after going out to buy a lighter.

A woman spotted a man matching Anthony Kelbie’s description sitting on a bench at Forfar Loch on Monday and Tuesday with a back pack.

The sighting emerged as a search continued at the weekend for Mr Kelbie, from Dundee, who has not been seen since he left his mother Carole’s Brechin home on August 19.

Officers investigating his disappearance returned to the Nursery Park area of Brechin on Saturday where he was last seen, in an attempt to jog someone’s memory.

Police spoke to 100 members of the public, handed out missing person flyers and flagged down vehicles to speak to drivers.

Residents in Brechin were also told to check any sheds or outbuildings they have for signs he might have been there.

Officers have also been conducting door-to-door inquiries near his home in Dundee.

Meanwhile, volunteer pilots from the UK Civil Air Patrol Scotland (UKCaps) have also offered to make their airborne assets available in the search for the 48-year-old.

Mr Kelbie went out to buy the lighter just hours after being treated in hospital for a bang on the head and he hasn’t been seen since. He suffered lumps and cuts after a fall during a seizure and his family are now fearing the worst.

Sergeant Victoria Crichton said: “Numerous people were able to assist and I would like to sincerely thank them for their help.

“It has been one week since Anthony was last seen and as more time passes we become increasingly concerned for him.

“It is out of character for him not to be in touch with his family and friends for so long and we need to make sure he is safe and well.

“We continue to appeal to Anthony to get in touch with police and let us know he is OK. Your family are worried about you and want to know you have come to no harm.

“There is also a possibility he has travelled to either Dundee or Aberdeenshire so we would also ask people living further afield to be alert. ”

When last seen he was wearing a blue Superdry jacket, blue jeans and white shoes.

Mrs Kelbie said: “I got a phone call from accident and emergency at Ninewells Hospital to tell me he’d had a seizure and fallen, hitting his head.

“Anthony was discharged at 4pm and travelled to my house.

“Around 8pm he told me he was popping out to the local shop to buy a lighter and I haven’t seen him since.

“Following the seizure and the fall earlier he was very confused.”
