Alloa impress, and Harris off to fine start

Alloa were top scorers on the opening day of the BT Caledonia Division One campaign, chalking up 12 tries in an impressive 80-14 win over newly-promoted Banff.

Harris saw off Grangemout­h Stags 24-0 at Elliot Road. Tries by Iain Ayton and Joe Abbott, both converted by Stewart Walker, who also slotted a penalty, gave the hosts a 17-0 advantage at the break. They completed the job when Marc Wilson crossed the whitewash and Walker again added the extras.

Glenrothes saw off Dunfermlin­e 34-24 at Carleton Park. Aaron Campbell had a double and Kain Duguid landed one conversion as the hosts reached the break at 12-12, with Mark Spacey and Callum Mckenzie touching down for Dunfermlin­e and Adam Fraser on target with a conversion attempt.

However, Glenrothes secured all five league points with further tries from Michael Delorey, Steven Varney and Ryan Venters, while Duguid weighed in with a penalty and two conversion­s.

The visitors secured a fourtry bonus point when Mckenzie claimed his second try and Liam Quarm also dotted down, the other points coming from a Fraser conversion.

Hillfoots were top scorers in Division Two (Midlands) with a 113-14 win at home to Madras.

Stirling County Bridgehaug­h had a 63-0 win at home to Kinross.

Morgan Academy were 22-17 winners at home to Falkirk II.

Kirkcaldy II got the better of Panmure by 39-31.

The only away victory came at Carnoustie, where Blairgowri­e returned with four league points after seeing off the hosts 19-8.

Crieff & Strathearn started their Division Three (Midlands) campaign by securing the bonus point with a 41-14 win at Grangemout­h Stags II.

Waid Academy were 43-0 winners over Bo’ness.

The Angus Developmen­t side had a 54-10 success against Bannockbur­n.

Hillfoots II beat their Perthshire counterpar­ts 31-21.

Stobswell were awarded a 28-0 win after Aberfeldy failed to fulfil the fixture.
