Bluebells denied late on after wiping out 3-0 deficit

Late equaliser stuns Lochee United in eight-goal thriller

- Mark Johnston

It was a game of two halves at New Dundas Park as Lochee United trailed 3-0 at the break but left Bonnyrigg needing a late equaliser to share the points in a 4-4 draw.

Andrew Kidd put the hosts in front on 10 minutes and Jonathan Brown doubled the advantage on 26 minutes. When Kidd scored from the spot on 28 minutes it looked like there would be only one winner.

A great Dougie Cameron free-kick pulled a goal back on 56 minutes and a strike from Bryan Deasley made it 3-2 just two minutes later.

Deasley levelled things up from the spot on 73 minutes and, when Wayne McIntosh was shown a second yellow card after 77 minutes and then Paddy Deane made it 4-3, it looked like the, perfect comeback.

However, Mark Stewart in the United goal was also shown a second yellow card with five minutes left and Lee Currie scored from the free-kick to pinch a point.

Just 12 months ago, Carnoustie Panmure were sitting bottom of the Super League with no points from six games. Saturday’s comfortable victory over Camelon at Laing Park was their fourth on the bounce and Alan McSkimming’s Gowfers sit in fifth place.

Ewan Buggins put the Gowfers in front on five minutes when he headed home a Sam Simpson corner and Pat Martin made it 2-0 on the half-hour after good work again by Simpson.

The Panny winger got his personal rewards on 63 minutes when he scored from the spot after he had been tripped.

Jordan Herron scored a consolation for Camelon on 83 minutes but they were reduced to 10 men in injury time.

Broughty Athetic interim manager Jamie McCunnie took a threadbare squad to Moorside Park to take on Dundonald Bluebell and came away with a 3-0 defeat and a red card.

Lewis McKenzie, last season’s Super League top scorer, put Bluebell 2-0 in front before half-time before Scott Lawrie made sure with a third goal for Dundonald in the second half. Ryan Blair was sent off late on.

Hill of Beath’s young side were unlucky to go down 1-0 at home to Penicuik at Keirs Park.

The only goal of the game came after just 12 minutes when Ross Montgomery, playing his 200th game for Penicuik, headed home from a corner. The win and draw for Bonnyrigg sees Johnny Harvey’s Penicuik go top of the table.

Newtongrange recovered from last weekend’s home defeat to Carnoustie with a 3-1 victory over Jeanfield Swifts at Riverside Stadium.

Stephen Scott put the visitors in front on 20 minutes but Swifts were level within five minutes courtesy of a Richard Donovan strike.

Sean Melvin restored the visitors’ lead just after half-time and Dale O’Hara put the icing on the cake from the spot with five minutes remaining.

Beware the wounded lion is an often used phrase and nothing could be more appropriate for Kennoway’s defeat by Bo’ness at Treaton Park.

The visitors had the game won by halftime, with Chris Donnelly netting a 15minute hat-trick to add to strikes by Alan Comrie and Jack Wilson.

The second half was much quieter and Bo’ness added just one more goal on 70 minutes through Calum Scott.

Daryl McKenzie’s Forfar West End gave a good account of themselves at Prestonfield against Linlithgow Rose but still returned with no reward after Owen Ronald scored the only goal of the game after just 10 minutes.
