Daly’s chances of landing Hearts post dealt blow with Fir Park loss

-

Jon Daly suffered a blow to his job aspirations after seeing his Hearts side go down 2-1 away at Motherwell on Saturday.

The caretaker head coach has been in temporary charge since the start of the season following the departure of Ian Cathro.

Daly has made no secret of the fact that he would be keen to carry on in the role in a permanent capacity, and is awaiting an announcement from the club on who will take the role.

However his hopes may have suffered a setback after a second loss in his four-match tenure at Tynecastle.

He said: “A defeat isn’t nice. In terms of the job I don’t know what the club are thinking. I think we played better, on the ball we passed it a lot better, but were probably let down in the final third.

“Today we didn’t deal with their decisions and didn’t make the right ones ourselves.”

He added: “The club have made the statement that they will make the decision next week, and I would imagine next week at some stage there will be a decision made on the role, it gives more clarity to the situation.”

Kyle Lafferty gave the visitors the lead with an accurate strike from distance, before Louis Moult teed up Ryan Bowman to equalise and then grabbed the winner himself with a superb curling effort from the edge of the area.

Moult then had an effort waved away by the officials, despite claiming his header had crossed the line before it was cleared by Christophe Berra.

His manager Stephen Robinson refused to blame the referee and called for more help to be offered to officials making decisions.

“Until they give the referees help, no one will know” he said.

“It’s impossible to make these decisions at that speed.

“Had we been drawing or got beaten 1-0, I’d have possibly made a bit more of it but I don’t know, I haven’t seen it.”

Meanwhile, Hamilton kept up their impressive start to the new campaign as Ali Crawford’s late penalty rescued a 2-2 draw against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

The hosts looked set for their first win of the season when a Louis Longridge own goal and Lee Erwin strike put them two up.

But Accies gained another valuable point as they fought back with goals from Giannis Skondras and Crawford, who tucked home his 88th-minute spot-kick.
