With Freshers’ Weeks and the new term just around the corner, The Courier caught up with the presidents of Dundee, Abertay and St Andrews student associatio­ns and found out why each is a great place to go to university

President of DUSA Sean O’Connor Hello, and welcome to the University of Dundee, situated at the heart of Scotland’s sunniest city. Congratula­tions on making it to Scotland’s University of the Year – again. I am the President of the Dundee University Students’ Associatio­n and our team of eight elected representa­tives – six of whom are fulltime and paid – are here to support you in every aspect of your new student life! You couldn’t have come to the University of Dundee at a better time, with our extraordin­ary teaching, our world-class research and our renowned student experience, as not only will you have one of the UK’s top student experience­s, you will soon have a degree from a highperfor­mance university that will empower you to be anything you want to be.

With this said, here are five reasons why you were right to choose the University of Dundee and the city itself:

1 The University of Dundee is one of the best in the country and it isn’t done yet!

UoD has risen rapidly up the league tables with a unique and incredible student experience championed by a loud student voice which is right at the heart of everything we do. 2 A city transforme­d Dundee has changed dramatical­ly over the years and as we approach the completion of the V&A and the new train station, there really are few waterfront­s in Scotland that can compete with Dundee’s.

3 Dundee’s incredible entertainm­ent scene

From the most delicious restaurant­s to the most stunning art all the way to the best nights out – Dundee has it all. Right at the centre of the city’s best entertainm­ent is The Union, the home of the Dundee University Students Associatio­n.

Here at DUSA we represent you on a daily basis across every subject imaginable but what is truly special is that the university listen to students. With your help, DUSA can make sure every decision that affects students is made in consultati­on with students.

University isn’t all about studying and it isn’t all easy, either. You will have problems and we are here for you; no matter how big or how small, DUSA will always do its best for you – whatever the situation. However, through our 170 societies and our various events you will have a chance to try new and exciting activities, to volunteer and make a difference and – most importantl­y – meet the friends that you will keep for the rest of your life.
